Newcastleton Music Festival
3 July - 5 July
Since its beginning in 1970, the Newcastleton (Traditional) Music Festival has provided a space for musicians, singers, poets and storytellers to come and share their love of traditional culture – complete without the brilliant and ancient Copshaw Common Riding.
Currently there are only two competitions arranged for the festival on Sunday 5 July (NB: the usual Saturday competition programme is not running this year) :
10am – Amateur Solo Highland Bagpipe Competition from 10am with Open Traditional March; under 16s Traditional March; ‘Bring Your Pipes and Chance It’ 3-5 minute freestyle and Best Dressed Piper categories with cash prizes.
£2 competition entry if you enter by Sunday 21 June or £5 if you enter on the day (subject to places being available). Enter via newcastletonmusicfestival@outlook.com or via the festival’s Facebook page.

Friday 3rd July
Scottish Ceilidh Dance – 8pm to Midnight in the Village Hall followed by our legendary Survivors Session in the Supper Room for anyone still wanting to play into the wee small hours!
Saturday 4th July
Copshaw Common Riding throughout the day. The Supper Room in the Village Hall will be open from 10am–4pm for anyone wanting to sing, play, listen, or simply enjoy some music away from the bustle of the pubs. Jason Arnup and his Band take to the stage from 9pm till late after the flags have been handed in. Then it’s back to the Supper Room for another Survivors Session!
Sunday 5th July
Following the piping competitions from 10am (see leaflet image below for details), join us for the Mike Ward chorus Cup from 3pm. Sing a song with a chorus, join in the fun, and maybe impress our judge, the one and only Tub Nichol II!
Festival Concludes Sunday Evening
