Winter Trad is a full weekend of traditional music workshops, sessions and a concert taking place in Newhaven and Leith on the 24th–26th of November. Tom Oakes (flute, guitar) and Ross Couper (fiddle) will be teaching workshops suited to intermediate and above players of fiddle, flute, whistle, guitar and other related instruments (mandolin, bouzouki, cello...) on the Saturday and Sunday, with a specific focus on session tunes this year. Thursday 30 November is St Andrew's Day, and also marks exactly 100 years since the death of revolutionary socialist activist and Glaswegian hero John Maclean. Come and celebrate his life and work at the final of the John Maclean Songwriting Competition, organised in his honour by Fraser Bruce. The event takes place at Pollokshaws Burgh Hall, a venue John Maclean used himself for meetings. Tickets: £10.00 on the night.
